“Produce and submit by the deadline a videographic product of no more than 10 minutes in duration accompanied by a 500-word critical review of the project.”

Background:
I become really stuck on what to do for this brief, and the idea came to me as I was lying in bed one night. I’m really pleased with the final outcome, I only wanted to create something short and simple and I think I’ve done an alright job.

Background:
I decided early on that I wanted to film a documentary, and I eventually settled on the idea of following someone learning to ring church bells. This was an amazing experience and was the first project that I have ever undertaken on my own. It was a lot of hard work, but I am very pleased with the final outcome.

Brief:
“The drama will be a 21st century reworking of a classic fairytale. You’ll be building on the knowledge that you have already gained, taking on roles as professional technicians and production staff. As a group, you’ll write, plan and shoot a short drama, filmed with a single camera. You’ll need to demonstrate an understanding of budgeting, as you will work with both a real and a virtual budget.”

Background:
This is by far the most stressful experience of my life, but also the most incredibly rewarding. I really enjoyed taking on the role of director and been able to use a budget to hire out professional actors. This was made within a group of four and we are all very pleased with the final product. If you have any feedback then please feel free to let me know. We got a mark of 81% for this drama.

“To develop an appreciation of audio and video theory within television production. Ability to analyse and understand different television genres. Awareness of importance of time allocation and limitations within broadcasting.”

Background:
This documentary was created as part of the Sound and Visual Media module in my second year at the University of Bradford. For the first time the University worked with Bradford City Council to create a range of films promoting local attractions. Our group of four was assigned to make a film about the local theatre hall St. George’s Hall. During this documentary we got the opportunity to interview local celebrity Billy Pearce and music legend Jools Holland. This was a great opportunity for me and one which I really enjoyed. This piece of work is the most challenging one that I have ever taken part in, but the final product is very rewarding. I achieved a mark of 86% for this module.

Completed December 2010

Brief:
“To engender discussion around ethical standards and develop collaboratively the concept of ‘sustainability’ (environmental, social and economic), as it relates to a specific field of study (broadcast, games, animation etc). To understand alternative, subversive and ethical frameworks in media and software distribution and give you a chance to produce collaborative content in your chosen media. You must produce, in groups, a ‘web-framed’ resource which deals with one of more of the ‘Ethics and Sustainability’ aspects of the curriculum. If you’re working primarily in video, a guideline for length to aim for would be 20 minutes of video per group.”

Background:
This piece of work was created in my second year at the University of Bradford as part of the module ‘Do the Right Thing’: Media Ethics, Compliance and Sustainability. I was put in a group of six people and we decided to focus on Ecoversity. Ecoversity aims to embed the principles and practice of sustainable development across the University of Bradford. Ecoversity had created a trail around campus called ‘The Green Campus Trail’ in which they linked up all of the sustainability features on campus. We created a video for each of these areas, along with the above introductory video for the trail. We then utilised the skills of other members within the group to create a website to bring all the videos together, another member of the group also created an animation. You can view all of the videos on the YouTube channel for Ecoversity Revisited. We attained a mark of 77% for this work.

Brief:
“To plan, script, story-board and edit a short drama of around 3 to 6 minutes. Your project must contain as many convention shots as is reasonably possible. Shots must cut together well and because the story runs for a short duration, should have pace. Story-boarding and scripting is essential and must be included with the finished film. If you plan well, you’ll know exactly what you need to shoot thus speeding up the process. Assessment will be based on how effective relevant framing, editing and genre codes and conventions are. Planning and safety documentation supporting the production are a key component and all documentation must be submitted in the form of a production folder with the final film submission.”

Background:
This piece of work was created in a Conventions of Videography module during my first year at the University of Bradford. There were four people in the group and we all worked well together in creating the finished product. This film took us four months to make, from the planning stages to the final finished edit, and we attained a mark of 69%.

Completed April 2010

Brief:
“You are to create an online visual diary in the form of a blog. This is to enable us to assess your ability in the following key areas that are an integral part of this module:
1.	To write about pictures and images
2.	To analyse and apply theoretical ideas to pictures
3.	To generate ideas for your own work
4.	To write about and evaluate your own work
5.	To conduct relevant research that is visually-led
You are expected to refer generally to material that is relevant to you own degree and programme of study.

In addition to your blog you are required to produce a media product. A wide range of possible products can be chosen, but it is assumed that you will choose something that is appropriate to your degree subject and programme of study.”

Background:
This piece of work was created in the Visual Communication module during my first year at the University of Bradford. I did this piece of work solely on my own and am very pleased with the outcome. The above video is a short stop-motion that I created as the final media product in this section. By viewing my online blog, you can see the development of my work. I looked at several different forms or stop-motion, from music videos to advertising. I also showcased some of my own work, including photo’s and video’s. I attained a mark of 66% for this module.

“To create a music video with supporting research and planning material. It must include a variety of shots with a storyline against shots of a band performing the song.”

Background:
This piece of work was part of the coursework element of my A level Media Studies course at The Robert Smyth School. I worked within a group of four people, taking on roles of not only acting but also editing and directing as well. The final outcome of the four months of work is a well produced music video which gained the highest mark for the year in the school with an A grade.
